The Sarasota regional Scholastic Art Awards were held Feb. 9 at Ringling College of Art and Design. Students from all over Sarasota County entered over 200 pieces of artwork to be judged by a panel of professional artists within the region.
Awards in order of importance include: Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable mention. Five Gold Key artworks are also chosen as an American Visionary Nominee. All Gold Key pieces will continue on to the National Scholastic Art Awards to be judged in New York City by a large panel of nationally recognized artists and reviewers. At the national level, the Scholastic Art Awards is the largest high-school art competition in the country, with award categories of Gold Medal, Silver Medal and Honorable Mention. Additionally, one American Visionary Nominee from each participating region in the country will be awarded the American Visionary award. National award winners will be announced March 14.
