When first entering the restaurant, one can immediately determine the main courses at Tom+Chee, located on University Parkway. Red and yellow surround the restaurant’s walls and tables, representing the grilled cheese and tomato soup served there.
The name Tom+Chee comes from the first three letters of tomato and the first four letters of cheese. From tomato basil soup to grilled cheese bars, most of the foods served are aptly related to either grilled cheese or tomato soup.
To order food, the customer must wait in line to order. The cashier at the register gives the person a number, and he or she waits in another line that is located off to the side. A server then delivers the order to the booth or table, which makes getting the food quick and easy.
There is also a section on the menu dedicated to the popular grilled cheese donut. While this may not seem appetizing at first, it has actually been found to be their best-seller. There are many kinds of grilled cheese donuts such as the Blueberry Blue, which is composed of blue cheese, mozzarella, blueberry compote and lemon mascarpone. The grilled cheese donuts are at first cheesy and then a sudden spike of sweet hits due to the donut. The tomato soup is fresh and the macaroni and cheese is delectable. The food guarantees the need for more.
The restaurant also comes with a challenge, known as the Baker’s Dozen Challenge. Those who want to participate have to eat thirteen grilled cheese donuts with unlimited time, a drink, no help, no bathroom breaks and all in one sitting. A single grilled cheese donut is filling enough, so try the challenge at your own risk.
