Bringing a classic 1950s film to the Auditorium stage, Pine View’s Drama Club will be performing “Twelve Angry Men” this Friday Sept. 23 and Saturday Sept. 24. The play will run from 7 to 9 p.m. each night.
Preparations for the play began fourth quarter of the 2015-2016 school year. Each student starring in the film attended practice on campus at least once every week over the summer to prepare.
“Twelve Angry Men” is a movie that focuses on a twelve person jury in a murder trial, in which one man believes the accused is innocent, and works to persuade the eleven remaining jurors to shift their viewpoints. “It’s monologue based, with well focused, deep, relevant themes, and contains character analysis that each play a part in bringing the piece together,” Douglas said.
“It brings cultural relevance and displays the merit of standing against unpopular opinion,” Drama Club member Foster Swartz said.
The officers of Drama Club picked this play to perform because of its more serious tone. “It would let the student actors explore the more serious facets of being a thespian, and it’s a play which would develop key skills in dramatic acting that previous pieces have not allowed us to target,” Swartz said.
Twelfth-graders Foster Swartz and Scott Douglas will be playing the main protagonist and antagonist of the play respectively. Each display different background experiences through their characters that lead them to their contrasting roles in the play and influence their final decisions in the murder trial. Douglas for example will be playing the role of a man who lost his child to death, and takes out his anger on the accused through out the performance.
“I look forward to seeing the efforts pay off from the dedication my best have put into this production since the beginning of the summer, it will hopefully impact our audience in a manner that is both poignant and lasting,” Swartz said.
Tickets will be sold for $10 on the Auditorium steps. Food and refreshments will also be sold during intermission.
