Offering vegetarian, vegan and seafood options for every meal of the day, Veg & Grill is a local eatery relatively new to the area. This small restaurant in Gulf Gate is known for their fresh and locally grown cuisine.
Veg & Grill opened in 2014 and only offers the freshest of fruits and vegetables from local and sustainable sources for healthy options. The owners of Veg & Grill are husband and wife Chef Joseph and Mindy Haslett.
The restaurant is located in the heart of Gulf Gate, in a little strip mall. The tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurant is a small and intimate place to enjoy a healthy meal with a friend. The restaurant is filled with brown tables surrounding a bar, providing a great location for a simple meal. The walls are decorated with different paintings that showcase the main aspect about the restaurant: vegetables. Veg & Grill is a great place to enjoy a healthy, great tasting meal that can be shared with both friends and family.
Breakfast
Breakfast options include a variety of dishes like pancakes, Mexican burritos or whole wheat French toast. Veg & Grill serves a special dish called shakshuka, which consists of two poached eggs in a spicy and creamy tomato sauce served with fresh fruit, providing sweetness to the mild dish. Veg & Grill also offers the potato paradise, in which a potato latke is served with cheese and scrambled eggs, with tomatoes and fruit on the side.
Additionally, they offer vegan options and substitutes for a majority of the items on the menu. For both dishes you can substitute the eggs for a vegan option of tofu scramble. If you want a more sweet and indulgent breakfast, then try the light and fluffy buckwheat pancakes or the whole wheat French toast.
The breakfast menu is only offered from Thursday through Sunday.
Lunch
Veg & Grill offers an extensive lunch menu with different types of starters, salads, wraps and sandwiches. A great starter for sharing is the mezze plate, a platter consisting of hummus, tabbouleh, baba ghanoush, mixed olives and warm pita bread. lettuce wrap platter that contains romaine lettuce filled a choice of fresh ahi tuna, hummus or mixed vegetables with a ginger dressing.
Following starters, a variety of meals are available. One of their most popular dishes is the BBQ jackfruit, a rich and creamy fruit from Asia soaked in barbeque sauce and served on bun with coleslaw and a creamy horseradish sauce. The lunch menu allows for a lot of customization for vegetarians and vegans, with substitutions including tofu, tempeh and the addition of avocado.
The lunch menu is served every day of the week from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Dinner
Like breakfast and lunch, dinner is served with lots of fresh ingredients and locally grown produce. Appetizers offered include the unique buffalo cauliflower bites, sautéed cauliflower dipped in buffalo sauce, a spicy and tangy twist on the American classic.
Entrée options are unique vegetable and seafood dishes. They offer Portobello a volcano, made of sautéed vegetables, quinoa and a hearty marinated Portobello mushroom on top. Another option is sesame plum salmon, a marinated wild Alaskan salmon served with vegetables and brown rice with lentils. Their signature salad is a mixture of chopped kale, carrot, cabbage, raw beets, avocados, pea shoots, sunflower seeds and a citrus papaya-seed dressing, providing a lighter option.
Dinner is served six days a week starting at 5 p.m. and lasts to 9 p.m.
