Twelfth-grader Elayna Goodman proves herself capable of triumph as she continues to prevail in her running métier. Goodman, part of the Riverview High School Girls Senior Cross Country team, has recently broken a Riverview High School record for the 5k run.
As the only Pine View student who runs for Riverview, Goodman recently placed second out of 85 runners at the Foot Locker South Regional Cross Country Race at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C., Nov. 26. She finished with the time of 18:58 for her last race as a high-schooler, surpassing her first senior year time of 20:07 and earning her the Riverview record for the 5k run. According to Goodman, achieving this has been her goal for a couple of years as a member of Riverview Cross Country.
Goodman began track as a seventh-grader for the Pine View middle school track team and moved on to Riverview once in ninth grade. Some of her accolades include being team captain and MVP for the last two years and winning the district title championship for her school this year. Her career as a runner has been long supported by others. “My parents have been there for me throughout my entire high school running career,” said Goodman. “I would not be where I am today without their constant love and support”.
She practices six days a week and runs at home and her other school, but is still able to perform well in her academics. “It’s gotten easier fighting for the balance between running and doing homework”, said Goodman. Her cross country future is still open to success as she looks forward for new possibilities. “We are extremely proud of our daughter Elayna and all of her accomplishments…,” said Goodman’s parents. “…She continues to amaze us with her dedication and drive.”
