Sun Garden Cafe is crowded — and for a good reason. If you’re able to find a parking spot within 10 miles of the Siesta Key Village breakfast joint, you’re in for a diverse menu of pancakes, baked goods, eggs and other dishes.
Sun Garden’s theme of local, healthy and delicious foods has made it a popular eatery for people of all ages and preferences. The crowds range from teens looking for sweet treats, to adults searching for wholesome and healthy options, to those seeking classic home-cooked style dishes.
Although it can take a minute to be seated, the restaurant’s bright decor, unique vintage advertisement wallpaper and outdoor seating are comfortable and welcoming. A “hippie” theme can be seen throughout the menu.
Patrons can start off with freshly squeezed orange, grapefruit juice, smoothies, or coffee, hot or iced. Some starting options, like muffins and cinnamon rolls, are available. One of these, the Sticky Bun, is a plate sized cinnamon roll full of pecans and topped with an avalanche of incredibly sweet vanilla icing, so abundant that it can even outlast the bun itself.
The rest of the menu features various breakfast sandwiches, like the Crescent Beach Croissant, with fried eggs, ham steak, cheese, lettuce and tomato on a croissant. Or the Bikini Bagel, with turkey sausage, avocado, tomato and sprouts on a fig-and-basil-pesto multi-grain bagel.
There are also eight omelette options — with names like the Flower Child, Birkenstocker, Pop’s Country, Baba O’Riley and Kitchen Sink — which range from meat-lover delicacies to healthy veggie and egg white choices. There are also five Benedicts, eight “Native Favorites”, a variety of comfort foods and egg recipes, and a selection of pancakes, waffles and bread puddings.
One of the most famous among the menu are the Sweet Potato Pancakes; fluffy and sweet with almost no resemblance to its vegetable origins, the cakes are topped with a sweet whipped pecan butter.
Sun Garden Cafe is also open for lunch, where they serve a variety of soups, salads, wraps, sandwiches and burgers.
Sun Garden Cafe delivers what is promised: comfort food with a healthy twist that tastes great and draws in a variety customers.
