The class of 2020 held the first-ever soccer tournament for both high school and middle school students, on Thursday March 23. The idea was formed from a collaboration of ideas from the class of 2020 student council. The teams consisted of four to six players. Class President, Tri Nguyen said, “Soccer is the most popular sport in the world and very popular at Pine View, so we were confident we would get a lot of participants.”
The soccer tournament was laid out with a round robin of two pools of four teams first. Then the two teams from each pool moved on to a playoff bracket. The teams that moved onto the playoff bracket were decided by the points they received during their ten minute game in the round robin. The point system listed as: a win was worth three points, a tie was worth one point, and a loss was worth zero points.
Ninth-grader Forrest St. Pierre said, “I’m really proud of my class for putting on such a great tournament. I had a great time playing with my team that was called the ‘Toon Squad’.”
After a long battle, the winners of the high school tournament was decided. The winners were of the team, “The Freshman” and consisted of ninth-graders Sofia Genta, Kris Selberg, Carter Worsham, Matthew Price-Palluel, Josh Capelli, and Makena Winch. The winners of the middle school tournament were of the team “Da Goal Kickers” and comprised of sixth-graders Lex Shwartz, Charlie Siddons, Julien Chauhan, Josh Worthington, Jaden Protaus, and Max Hal.
