The playground near Building 16 holds many nostalgic memories for students that once played on it. From role-playing as zombies on the dome to scaling the rock wall, the playground instils nostalgia on the passersby that once played on it. However as a recent novelty to Pine View, that said playground has been replaced with a new one.
The new playground sparks discussion among groups of all ages around the school. For the elementary schoolers, the new playground is entertaining and offers a variety of games to play.
“It’s way more fun,” second-grader Aven Cunningham states, “In my opinion, the elevator and stuff are better [in comparison to the old playground set].”
While the elevator that transports elementary schoolers down it receives a lot of attention, there are tons of other new equipment that catch the students’ eye.
Another notable novelty of the playground is the swing that can be found under the main stairs to the playground. When second-grader Scarlet Traverso is asked why the swing is so notable she responds with, “Because it’s a little swing, and you can put your feet on the ground and swing yourself.
While elementary schoolers make the most out of their new playground, upperclassmen that once played on the past playground reminisce about their old school days. While some think back to earlier times, many also shift their focus of the new look of the playground.
“I’ve only seen it twice in passing,” Eleventh-grader Mackenzie Haas states, “…I miss the nostalgia of the old playground, and there’s just so many good memories on that thing. The new one is so fancy and posh now. It’s really pretty.”
“I’m glad that they didn’t completely get rid of it and just put a bunch of brand new stuff,” says tenth-grader Mikayla Foss expresses her opinions on the playground’s new look, “I like that they kept the structure and looks pretty much the same.”
The nostalgic discussion surrounding the new playground also lets upperclassmen reflect on all of the good times they had.
“I remember playing freeze tag and infection. I remember all of the tagging on that little grassy field.” Haas mentions with a grin on her face.
