A time-honored tradition at Pine View School is the annual Variety Show. Every year hundreds of students and faculty spend their Friday and Saturday nights watching as a variety of talents are showcased.
The proceeds of this year’s Neon Nights Variety Show—that took place February 2 and 3, 2024—went to the Class of 2026. The show was directed by four sophomores: Calista Ream and Sarina Sallapudi, the Creative Directors, and Bryn Famiglio and Juliette Pauling, the technical directors.
They were each inspired to become directors for a variety of reasons, for instance, Ream had participated in the show in seventh grade and thought it would be fun to help direct.
Though the show turned out great, there proved to be challenges throughout the process.
“I would say the hardest challenge for us was communicating with everyone in acts and confirming that dates and times worked for everyone together,” Pauling said.
Another problem they struggled with was getting approval for multiple of their ideas, though it is understandable that all content must be approved.
The directors also said they had a multitude of positive experiences while working on the show.
“I really enjoy bonding with so many people here, especially the directors, and the shadows, stagehands and emcees,” Sallapudi said, “It was nice getting to know everyone backstage and [seeing] how passionate these people are about their talents.”
The directors also bonded by “…going and meeting up at Starbucks for morning coffee and breakfast just figuring out all the logistics of the show…” Famiglio said.
Though bittersweet for the directors and seniors—who participated in their final year of the Variety Show; the hard work put in by everyone involved really paid off, making it another successful year for Pine View.
