Historians are responsible for documenting their class’s events and activities throughout the year. Check out who’s running.
Ninth grade
Why are you running?
“I like being part of the class office. I did this year, I like to do next year. I also like taking pictures (I’m in yearbook) and I think this would be a great way to get more involved with the class.”
What sets you apart from the other candidates?
“I was the historian this year, and the only one in Yearbook. I like being creative, and I think this will translate positively into my social media and other record-keeping.”
What you hope to accomplish if you win?
“I hope that next year I can document more of what everyone’s doings, and pictures. I also have planned for InstaGram page, for the class. I also like the idea of hosting fundraiser meals, and splitting the profits with the restaurant they take place at.”
What do ideals will you bring to the table?
“For the social media, I like the idea of a class-wide student of the week feature.”
Jackie Seitz – “I got the class of 2020 in my Seitz!”
Why are you running?
“I’ve always loved to take pictures, and I like to take pictures at events such as the volleyball game, so I think that this is a position that will suit me well.”
What sets you apart from the other candidates?
“I think that I am comfortable with people, so I think that I would be more able to go out to people than other candidates. I also have much experience with photography, as I have been taking pictures since I was very young.”
What do you hope to accomplish if you win?
“I want everyone to be able to have pictures of themselves in different events. That way people can see themselves in things such as the yearbook. I know that people love being able to see themselves having fun at the school events, and like to be the one to bring these pictures to them.”
What new ideas will you bring to the table?
“I’ve never seen anyone make the class page before, and I would like to do that. I think that it would be a cool and creative idea, getting all the pictures of class together like that.”
Kemper Bernstein
Why are you running?
“I’m running for the position of historian because I feel that right now, we don’t have enough up on the Facebook and other social media and I’d be able to better cover the happenings in the class of 2020 and the other candidates. I would be willing and able to volunteer to raise funds and contribute time to the class of 2020 if necessary.”
What sets you apart from the other candidates?
“I have previous experience. I have been on the board, I’ve been to the meetings, and I know the general logistics is sponsoring the events.”
What do you hope to accomplish if you win?
“I like to add more of what we do to Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram, so people can see what we have done. Our goal for next year is to have $15,000 and my goal is to be able to reach that by getting others involved at these meetings.”
What new ideas will you bring to the table?
“I want to introduce a student teacher day where high school students would act as teachers for the younger students. I think that this would bring individual classes together, an foster and environment where the Pine View family is not divided into grades.”
Ben Nicholson – “Let’s go down in history.”
Why are you running?
“I’m running for historian as a way to thank my class back. I know that my class is the kindest and most caring group of people I know. Running for historian, for me, is a way to pay them back. Utilizing the skills I’ve learned, over the years, to benefit them.”
What do you hope to accomplish if you win?
“My number one goal is to document all the things we’ve done together as a class, as a good historian should. I would also like to user social media to its fullest potential, and not just the minimal use that it is seen so far. I believe that, if we put our minds together, I think that we can make big bucks. Not just to graduate, but to leave a monument on campus, to show that the class of 2020 was here, and to show what they have done for Pine View.”
What sets you apart from the other candidates?
“The other candidates are very talented people, but I have devoted very large portion of my life to photography and moviemaking, essentially since I was 6 or 7 years old. I also believe that I know the spirit of the class better than anyone else. I know the kind of things we do, and the kind of class we should be remembered as. I also have a cooler nickname. I mean, Benny Nickels just has a flow to it.”
What new ideas would you bring to the table?
“I think that the number one new idea is my philosophy on fundraising. As class officers, our first duty is to raise money, to be able to graduate. I have seen a lot of other parties use crowd funding services and to a great degree of success. I think that we can use these, in combination with our social media and the spirit of our class, to make the money that we need. I think that it may start out slow at first, but I think that, as parents and others start really seeing what our class can do and contributing directly, we can make more money than using something such as a soccer tournament, or bake sale. This is because we are getting direct contributions instead of making a profit. That is not to say I will not use past techniques that work, but I believe it is definitely worth trying new ideas to get the money I know we can make.”
Tenth grade
Cate Alvaro and Haleigh Brown
Why are you running?
“Cate and I are members of the Torch Newspaper, where we are both on the photos staff. Last year I was Assistant Photos and this year I am Photo Editor. Currently Cate is Assistant Photos and next year will be Photo Editor. We are both really passionate about photography and we also have a great time working together. Last year Cate was Co-Historian and wanted to be a class officer again, so when Cate came to me with the idea of running, it seemed like a perfect fit.” (Brown)
What do you hope to accomplish if you win?
“We hope to capture the memories of all of the students in our class. We really want to make sure that we take photos of students from every single friend group and document the moments of our high school career.” (Alvaro)
What new ideas will you bring to the table?
“This year I came up with the idea of posting sophomore superlatives on the class of 2019 Instagram, to feature students in our class. So I want to bring more ideas like that to the table, of how to get our class more involved and united. We want to get our class more involved, not just the officers, so I think it would be beneficial to do more small projects that they’ll want to participate in and they’ll be excited about.” (Alvaro)
