Fall is here. It may not seem like it as Florida gets bombarded with extreme weather, from Hurricane Irma to sweltering heat, but fall has arrived nonetheless. The easiest way for us Floridians to appreciate the spirit of fall is through food, for that requires no apparent change in the outdoor weather but rather a change in flavor.
My favorite Floridian twist on fall is a pumpkin smoothie. The flavors of fall are clear in the drink, and it is still refreshing and healthy as we continue to deal with summer-like conditions. Want to go on a trip to the beach in September? Sure thing — just do it with this fall smoothie in hand. Sipping this treat on the beach will blast anyone into the fall season, while maintaining a healthy beach body.
Ingredient
½ cup of Pumpkin Puree
1 cup of almond milk
2 medjool dates
½ cup of vanilla yogurt
½ cup ice
½ teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice
Directions
Place all of the ingredients into a blender and mix thoroughly. Pour into a cup and, if desired, top with additional pumpkin pie spice for extra flavor.
For a twist, many of these ingredients can be altered to adjust to any preference. The almond milk adds to the fall flavor, but regular milk will work just as well. Banana can be substituted for the dates to contribute to the overall sweetness of this drink. Instead of yogurt, protein powder can be used. My favorite protein powder that I add to this drink is the salted caramel flavor, but vanilla is a good supplement too. Also, a half cup of oats can be added to make the smoothie thicker.
Sit back, relax and sip the flavors of fall.
