The Write a Play, a branch of the Florida Studio Theatre, (FST) began over twenty-five years ago when Richard Hopkins was trying to find a way to influence the nature and direction of playwriting for American youth. On October 25, multiple FST actors came to Pine View to perform different plays written by students from varying grade levels.
Third-grade teacher Freda Williams has coordinated this event for multiple years. Williams began this tradition when she began teaching. She believes it is a fun way to get students interested and motivated in writing, “From the very beginning I’ve seen kids just getting excited about being creative and writing a play for the first time,” Williams said.
For the past few months, the actors have all been performing with FST, and said they are enjoying their job and the opportunity to inspire their audiences.
